Visitors to Mansons Landing Provincial Park will notice new split rail fencing has been installed on the spit. This has been constructed by Friends of Cortes Island (FOCI), working in partnership with BC Parks, to help control erosion issues here.

As many people will know the end of the spit has been suffering badly from erosion in recent years. This has been caused in part by people trampling and climbing on the fragile banks and midden. The fence is designed to help protect this area and guide people to stay on the trail.

We hope that visitors to the park respect the new fencing, stay on the trail and avoid causing further harm to this fragile and sensitive part of the spit.

We would like to say a big thank you to BC Parks for working with us on this project and look forward to an ongoing partnership with BC Parks to undertake further measures to help to conserve and protect the spit.

Many thanks also to the great team of Alex Bernier, Ryan Harvey, Mike Manson and Bruce Harrison who came out and helped install the fence!
