Friends of Cortes Island is suspending any public events and activities for the time-being in support of the COVID-19 guidelines set out by our National and Provincial Governments.
We are still at work, however, and we are continuing to safely develop and implement our other projects, where feasible and in line with the guidelines. This includes our lake and marine monitoring programs. We are also exploring how we can adapt and deliver our educational programming online or by other means. Our Executive Director, working from home, and the FOCI board are holding virtual board meetings.
We are also continuing to maintain the SRD Regional Parks and Trails including Kw’as Park, Carrington Bay Park, Siskin Forest Park and Trails, Whale’s Rest Park and the Gnat, Moon, Seascape and Hayes Road beech access trails. We hope you will continue to enjoy these parks and trails, which we know are important for everyone’s physical and mental well-being.
SRD Parks – Notice from the SRD
At this time the SRD parks and trails remain open. While you are enjoying the SRD Parks and trails please practice social distancing by staying at least 1.8 metres or six feet apart from other park users.
Preliminary studies have shown COVID-19 can live up to three days on plastic and steel surfaces. Please take extra precautionary measures and practice self-sanitizing if touching public surfaces such as rails, handles, etc.
If you are feeling unwell or have been in contact with someone positive for COVID-19 please do not visit SRD parks and trails at this time.
The SRD has closed all campsites for the time being, including the campsite at Carrington. This is done not only for the safety of the public but for the staff who need to maintain these sites. It has also closed the Skate Park in Manson’s Landing.
