Friends of Cortes Island invites you to join Maria McKenty for a live Rain Garden demo and planting party! A Rain Garden is a garden of native shrubs, perennials, and flowers planted in a small depression, which is generally formed on a natural slope. It collects rainwater from a roof, downspout, driveway, or street and allows it to soak into the ground. Rain Gardens are a cost-effective and beautiful way to reduce runoff from your property, garden with minimal water inputs, filter incoming water, recharge the groundwater, and grow beautiful native plants for pollinators. Come learn and help us complete the Co-op’s new Rain Garden by putting the plants and seeds in!
