Lake Monitoring Volunteers
We have a small team of dedicated lake volunteers who undertake monthly water quality sampling of Hague and Gunflint lakes. Volunteers work in pairs and go out in a canoe to take samples and measurements.
Volunteers must be fit, able to swim, and ideally commit for at least a year. Training will be provided.
Park and Trail volunteers
We run occasional work parties to help manage the island’s parks and trails, and are planning to develop this work. The work involves a variety of tasks from pulling broom and clearing vegetation to building and repairing trails.
Cortes Island Stream Keepers
Cortes Island Stream Keepers are actively involved in monitoring salmon streams around Cortes. They also undertake stream restoration projects. They depend on a dedicated team of interested volunteers to undertake their work.
Events volunteers
We run a variety of activities throughout the year including talks, walks, film evenings and more. We also take part in Cortes Day and Seafest.
We are looking for event volunteers to help us run and set up our events and activities. You will be involved in helping to set up and take down the event, taking payments, serving refreshments, handing out information and talking to the public.
